Matisse-Inspired Still Life Resists are Done! Day 3 of our still life unit had K1 students painting their backgrounds with watercolors to create a resist with oil pastels. The kids were quite impressed by how the watercolor beaded up and rolled off of the oil pastels. We talked about the science behind this art technique: the fact the water and oil don't mix, and repel each other. As you look through the finished work, be sure to notice the patterns on the tables and walls behind the still life drawings inspired by Henri Matisse's paintings.
